What the Bible says about: understanding

Devotional Guidance

My beloved child, know this: understanding is not merely the ability to gather facts, but a divine gift bestowed upon us by the Father. It is the pathway to knowing Him more deeply, and the key to living a life that reflects His perfect wisdom. The path to true understanding begins when we humbly seek knowledge, incline our hearts to hear His voice, and diligently seek the truths that lead to His heart. When we pursue wisdom, we unlock the knowledge of God and gain the clarity needed to discern His will in our lives. This understanding allows us to pray with true spirit, worship with genuine heart, and walk in the peace that comes from knowing Him completely. Embrace this gift, and let your life be a reflection of the deep wisdom found in the Lord.
Proverbs 2:1-7
1. My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2. So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3. Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4. If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5. Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
1 Kings 3:11-13
11. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; 12. Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
1 Corinthians 14:14-17
14. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16. Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
Daniel 5:14-16
14. I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee. 15. And now the wise men , the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
Proverbs 4:1-6
1. Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. 2. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. 3. For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. 4. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. 5. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
