What the Bible says about: repentance

Devotional Guidance

My beloved child, come to me. I want to share the deep, gentle truth the Scriptures reveal about repentance. Repentance is not merely regret, but a profound turning of the heart toward God. It begins when we acknowledge our wrongs and experience godly sorrow—a deep mourning that reveals our separation from Him. This sorrow is the fertile ground where true change begins. When we turn our hearts entirely to the Lord, we seek His mercy and ask for forgiveness, recognizing that through Christ, salvation is made possible. It is an invitation to cease our ways and embrace a new path of life with Him. Do not fear the sorrow that leads to change, for it is the sorrow of the Spirit that works toward eternal life. When you turn to Him, remember that His heart is always open to receive you, and He is slow to anger, ready to forgive and restore you in His great kindness. Let your heart be open, and come to me now, for I am here to welcome you home.

9. Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Job 7:20-21
20. I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself? 21. And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be .
Hebrews 9:28
28. So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
2 Corinthians 7:7-9
7. And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more. 8. For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
Joel 2:13-16
13. And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. 14. Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God? 15. Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:
